Tax Planning

Taxes touch every part of your financial life. We plan around them all year, not just at filing time, so less of what you earn goes to the IRS.

Tax planning is where we often drive the most value early in a relationship. By coordinating your income, investments, and big decisions with the tax code, we can create real, immediate savings that frequently justify the cost of planning on their own.

The goal isn't a single trick at tax time. It's a multi-year strategy. The choices you make today about which accounts to fund and how to draw from them compound for decades.

How we approach your taxes

Most people meet their tax preparer once a year, in April, when every decision that mattered is already locked in. We work the other way around. All year, we look at where your income is coming from and decide, proactively, how to position it.

A lot of it comes down to which bucket your money lands in, and we help you build across all three: taxable accounts you can tap anytime, pre-tax accounts that lower today's bill, and Roth accounts that come out tax-free. The payoff shows up at withdrawal. In retirement we can fill your standard deduction, take gains in the 0% capital-gains band, then draw from Roth. Two people with the same net worth can pay very different tax bills depending on how they got there, and that planning has to happen years ahead.

What this includes

The three-bucket strategy

Position money across taxable, pre-tax, and Roth accounts so you can draw tax-efficiently in retirement: standard deduction, then the 0% capital-gains band, then the rest.

Bracket & Roth management

Decide when to favor Roth versus pre-tax as your income changes, and use lower-income years intentionally.

Tax-efficient investing

Asset location, harvesting, and withdrawal sequencing so your portfolio isn't quietly creating an unnecessary tax bill.

Owner & income coordination

For business owners: entity structure, owner compensation, retirement contributions, and the timing of big purchases.

Who it’s for

  • High earners facing the highest marginal rates
  • Business owners with complex, lumpy, or pass-through income
  • Anyone whose April tax bill keeps landing bigger than expected
